Rock River Chapter of Northern IL History:
Rock River HOG club started in February 1988. Our sponsor, Kegel Motorcycle, was located on Auburn St. at the time.
The first club meeting was held in the dining room of a small restaurant on North Main St. in Rockford with 29 members attending. Annual dues were $10.00 and our first official bank deposit was made in March, and the first club ride was to Highland Park in April of that year. In May, we traveled to Bubba's Honda Drop, and in June, we joined others in Madison to ride together into Milwaukee for the Harley Davidson 85th Anniversary ride and party. July was the first month for the HOG Tattler and the midnight "Red Eye Poker Run" for many of us. In the fall, we traveled to Springfield for the race; met in Elk Creek for our first Sturgis dinner; and rode together to Tomahawk for the Fall Colorama Ride / Open House. By December, we were ready for our first Christmas party. We ended the year with sixty-six members. It was a good beginning. Directors were: Bob H., Phil R., Dana C., Bruce I., Al D., Jerry Z., Ron V., Tom O, Betty K., and Dave P..
Nowadays (29 years later), the Chapter sponsors several charitable events each year. Annual charity events include the Great American Biker Jam, proceeds benefit local charities , and Vets Roll. Although we happily take on charity events, we are basically a social, riding club.
Our sponsoring dealer and officers work hard to provide rides and events to entertain the members with the main goal to "ride and have fun."
Current annual events include the Progressive Dinner Ride, Chapter Picnic, Rider's Challenge Book, Pumpkin Carving, Fall Cookout, River Raft and Campout, Witches & Warlocks ride, and Christmas Party .
We are always looking for the input and participation of the members to plan out new rides and events for our chapter calendar. Let one of the officers know if you have and idea for a fun event or ride and we'll get to work on it!
