The 2007s are out.....50th year Anversary Sportster, Night Rod Special, Screaming Eagle Super Glide and Springer 110 cu. in (1800cc), the Softail Custom is back! Standard 96 Cubic Inch (1584cc) engine in all big twins and 6 speed transmission standard on all models including sportsters.
I test rode a stock 2007 Heritage Softail Classic with 96cu in motor and 6 speed transmission. I currently ride a 04 RoadGlide with a 95 cu in with 5 speed trans. Power wise it was close but I had to give a nod to my RoadGlide with Stage 1 kit, it just breathes better. I imagine the Heritage would gain alot from a free breathing intake and exhaust. Its hard to believe I spent $1500 bucks extra for my motor exhaust and intake and now Harley gives most of it to you as a stock unit. It seems Harley has its finger on what people want out of their bikes. The bike was smooth and throttle responsive. I had to get used to the apehangar style bars on the Heritage but the bike seemed to handle fairly well doing a U-turn on a two lane road. It did seem to need a little more revs to keep from bogging down. A quick blast through the gears proved that the extra gear really helps keep the revs down in high gear. This would help your gas mileage at highway speeds but around town you may see a decrease in fuel ecomony with the lower gears. Fit and finish was top notch. You could not tell from a quick glance that the 07 was any different from last years model. Harley is putting out the bike we all want so get out and ride one for your self. Kegels has 2007's in stock go check them out!
